THE LORD WILL DO GREAT THINGS
JOEL 2:21 “Fear not, O land; be glad and rejoice: for the LORD will do great things.”
As in the days of Joel, the Prophet, this is a day of crisis and calamity; God’s people are not behaving according to the blessed standard God has commanded. The ‘old landmarks’ have been set aside and “everyone is doing that which is right in his own eyes.”
A revival of spiritual things to put God in the place He should be in our lives is needed. As in those days, we need a sweeping revival, a revival that will sweep the whole land and sweep out the sin in the lives of God’s people. We need a weeping revival, weeping over personal sins from contrite hearts of believers, a broken and contrite heart is acceptable to the Lord. And we need a reaping revival, if God is honored and obeyed, He will do great things in our midst. A harvest of precious souls will be forthcoming. God says in His Word, “Fear not, O land; be glad and rejoice: for the Lord will do great things.” [Joel 2:21]
These Scriptures have far-reaching prophetic significance, but God is ready to do great things for us today. Let us not miss His blessed invitation and meet His conditions. Let us do it in our personal lives and allow God to work in us and through us and reach others.
Let us proclaim His Word through the land, keeping close accounts with the Lord in the matter of our own sins, daily confessing them and staying in communion with Him. God can use a broken heart and He does so, but He cannot use a divided heart, a heart with divided affections. Nor can He use a hard heart, so we must not delay obedience, or resist the Holy Spirit’s control.
It is wonderful when God’s people are laboring in love and reaping a harvest of precious souls for His namesake. Let us humbly serve him, and sow the precious seed of the Word wherever we go, expecting great things from a great God, we will reap even more than we expect, if we do.
