Waiting Upon The Lord

James 4:6; 1 Peter 5:5

The suspense of waiting upon the Lord conducts a thorough test as to the character of a person. It divides into two classes: the proud and the humble. The uplifted and the upright. And they are poles apart.

God resists the proud but gives grace to the humble. Both James and Peter record this great truth with only the conjunction different--"but" in James 4:6 and "and" in 1 Peter 5:5.

The delay of a promise reveals a fault in the proud one. It reveals that he or she is impatient and will not endure waiting. Such a person dictates to the Lord, being lifted up in heart and questions His wisdom.

It is very natural to be proud, our first parents fell because of pride, and we have inherited it. We must not live as a mere natural man, but allow the Lord to lift us above that level into a supernatural plane of life. We are not "of" this world.

Pride takes many shapes; among them a vain attitude that we should be served at once.

A truly upright person is a humble person, which is a pleasant contrast to the arrogant person of pride.
In His unfailing love,
Pastor Ed Bowen
