THE GOSPEL OF JOHN
JOHN 1:1-2 “In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. The same was in the beginning with God.”
“Each book of the Bible has a prominent and dominant theme which is peculiar to itself,” is an oft-quoted statement and a true one. This compares to the functions of the physical body, each part being unique to its own purpose in the body. So, the different parts of the body of truth have their unique purpose and each part makes up the complete revelation of God’s truth as God has revealed it to mankind through the Holy Scriptures and preserved it for us.
We find a statement incorporated in almost all constitutions of churches called “the statement of faith,” as regarding the Bible. “We believe that the Bible is the Word of God, the rule of faith and practice.” It is not believed to be “a” rule, but “the” rule of faith and practice. This common statement gives authority to the Bible as the standard for living the life of faith
The Gospel of John has, as its theme, “The Deity of Jesus Christ.” John writes as he completes his gospel, “and many other signs truly did Jesus in the presence of his disciples, which are not written in this book. But these are written that ye might believe that Jesus is the Christ, the Son of God, and that believing, ye might have life through His Name.” (John 20: 30-31).
In this book of the Bible, this truth of the deity of Jesus Christ is emphasized as nowhere else in the Scriptures. The One who was heralded by the shepherds; born of a virgin in a manger in Bethlehem; lived a perfect life among men; died on a cross; came forth victoriously from the grave on the third day; and ascended back to the Father; is none other than the Lord of Glory. He is indeed here proven to be the great God and our Savior, Jesus Christ, (Titus 2:13), and as such, given the pre-eminence, for He is indeed worthy, as truly God and Man, to be worshipped and praised as both Creator and Redeemer.
