THE TRUE HAVEN FOR THE HEART
ROMANS 11:36 “For of him, and through him, and to him, are all things: to whom be glory forever. Amen.”
There is only one real haven for the heart, and that is “to rest in the Lord.” We must recognize that “of Him and through Him and to Him are all things.” We must seek to learn from Him the lesson He is teaching us in each separate incident of our lives.
We are called upon to ‘live out’ what we profess. So we cannot be occupied with secondary causes, instead we must see God’s Hand in everything. In doing so, we will not have our peace destroyed by an avenging response toward someone or something which is not the real enemy, but only a tool in the hand of the real adversary of the soul. Let us be reminded, also, that He is able to make all things abound toward us for our good. This is His promise and He cannot lie.
This assurance will take away many complications that would occur to take us away from the paths of righteousness. Our question of faith is not, why? For, God is not prone to give us reasons as much as He is to give us promises. Our question of faith is, what? In the light of this occurrence, what will You have me do?
It is blessed to know that “the steps of a good man are ordered by the Lord” and “though he fall, he shall not be utterly cast down: for the Lord upholdeth his hand.” (Psalm 37:26-27).
So, when an unreasonable person constantly tries to ruin us in every way or a seemingly senseless thing occurs in our lives, we must fix our eyes upon “Him who is invisible” to the natural eye, but not to the eye of faith and realize that our victory is secure in Him. He came forth from the grave victoriously conquering the last enemy, death, and He has established victory in our lives. So, our victory is in Him, not in circumstances. Someone has called such secondary causes, mere ‘bumps in the road’ for they cannot stop us. This knowledge gives peace to the heart as the heart rests in Him.
