Seeing Him Who Is Invisible
HEBREWS 11:27
“By faith he forsook Egypt, not fearing the wrath of the king: for he endured, as seeing him who is invisible. “
Moses, the servant of God, endured as seeing Him who is invisible to the natural eye. He walked by faith and not by sight and in doing so, he fearlessly and boldly endured the wrath of the King of Egypt, choosing to suffer affliction with the people of God rather than to enjoy the pleasures of sin for a season. He had refused to be called the son of Pharoah’s daughter, esteeming the reproaches of Christ greater riches than the treasures of Egypt.
This kind of sight requires the eye of faith, no one would naturally oppose the King, or forsake a position that would make one king, nor the pleasures such a position would bring about, nor the earthly riches, otherwise.
But Moses was not “looking inside himself” to see “who he was,” as we are told to do today, whatever that is supposed to mean. Nor was he looking around at others to determine what road he would travel. He saw “Him who is invisible.” Him who had a greater name than the King of Egypt, a greater position than the son of Pharoah’s daughter could ever have. And he had greater riches than the treasures of Egypt, he chose greater rewards than all of this world could give. Moses saw the brief season of pleasure sin could give, and chose to suffer affliction with the people of God, rather than enjoy it for that season. He, as Paul, considered his sufferings as “light affliction which is but for a moment" as compared to the “glory which shall be revealed in us.” Would to God all believers would choose thusly, and we will be able to, if we get our focus fixed on where Moses had his focus, “seeing Him who is invisible.” Moses is not sorry today that he made these choices, Are we making the same choices daily in our lives? We only have one time through life to make them. Let us make them right.
